VSA joins a Save Square
On Saturday, May 28th, the Animal Save Movement is organizing a vegan outreach event (called a Save Square) in Nijmegen. VSA Nijmegen is joining this event for the third time so that our members can get to know this form of activism. The Save Square consist of two groups. One group stands around blindfolded (you can see through the blindfold) holding a screen. The screens show (graphic) footage from the animal exploitation industry. These activists stand facing different directions. The other half of the group are outreachers who talk with people who stop to look to ask them/make them think about their (food) choices regarding animals. The participants regularly change roles, but if you donβt feel comfortable doing outreach, you can also just remain in the square. After the event, participants often go out together to grab a bite to eat, feel free to join them. More detailed instructions are given at the event and the organizers + president of VSA Nijmegen (responsible for animal ethics) will be there to help you if it is your first activist experience. The footage shown at the event is graphic, but you don’t need to watch it, if you don’t want to. Especially if you only stand in the formation, you see (next to) nothing of it. A VSA Nijmegen board member, the Animal Save Movement organizers, and your fellow activist are there for you, if you need any emotional support. After the event, people joining from the VSA will talk about how the event was for us.
