Chocolate Protein Shake

Chocolate Protein Shake
What other recipe to post in January? This Chocolate Shake, which is full of natural proteins, is a delicous drink to have after a sweaty session! Gathering the ingredients might be a bit of a hassle, but it's totally worth it. And, once you have made your own protein powder, making the shake is done within a minute!
Equipment
- Blender An immersion blender also works. Cut your banana into slices before you freeze it.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp oats
- 2 tbsp flaxseeds OR hemp seeds (more protein, more expensive, less omega 3)
- 3 large tbsp cacao powder OR tbsp cacao powder + 3 tbsp of raw cacao nibs OR vegan chocolate protein powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 frozen banana If using an immersion blender, cut in slices
- 75 grams red fruits OR bleuberries (antioxidants)
- 2 tbsp cranberries OR goji berries (antioxidants)
- 500 ml plant-based milk
- agave syrup optional
- lemon juice optional
Instructions
- Add your oats, seeds, cacoa powder and pinch of salt to a blender and mix until you have a fine powder. This might take a bit, depending on how strong your blender is.
- You now have your protein powder. If you only want one portion, take out 2/3 of the protein powder and put it in an airtight container. If so, add less fruits and milk to the blender in the next step.
- Now add the remaining ingredients, but only add ⅓ of the milk.
- Blend until you have a smooth substance. This step might again require some patience.
- Add the remaining milk and taste. Optionally add some agave syrup or lemon.
- Enjoy!
Notes
PS: This recipe is inspired by the amazing vegan cook Gaz Oakley. I have adapted the recipe such that it is somewhat more budget friendly. The options are from the original recipe.
PS2: You can make big batch of protein powder and store it. When you feel like it, just blend your fruits and milk together with a few tablespoons of the powder and you have your shake!
