(Anti-)Racism Within the Vegan Movement with Christopher Sebastian McJetters

? On Tuesday April 6th at 19:30, VSA Nijmegen, VSA Maastricht, VSA Groningen, VSA Amsterdam and umbrella association VSA Netherlands are organizing the online event: Anti-racism within the vegan movement with Christopher Sebastian McJetters.

? We will discuss issues surrounding race and racism in the vegan movement such as the centering of white voices/de-centering of BIPOC voices in the vegan movement. We’d like to address this within our associations, as one of our core values is inclusivity and we believe it is important that every movement or community provides a safe and welcoming space for its members.

? We are honored to have Christopher Sebastian McJetters speak with us about the issues that exist in the vegan community and how to critically address them. He is the director of social media for Peace Advocacy Network, he sits on the Advisory Council for Encompass, he is a senior fellow at Sentient Media, he is co-founder of VGN, and he lectures at Columbia University in the Department of Social Work for the graduate course POP: Power, Oppression, and Privilege. Using a multidisciplinary approach that includes media theory, political science, and social psychology, he focuses on how human relationships with other animals shape our attitudes about race, sexuality, and class.

? Attendance is free but registration is required. Sign up through this form: https://forms.gle/84o9PWafezSSzEyVA
The lecture will be hosted through Zoom. Please keep an eye on your mailbox for the invitation link. After a talk by Christopher-Sebastian, which will take about 30 minutes, there will be room for questions. If you have any questions for Christopher or you’d like him to discuss a certain topic related to (anti-)racism in the vegan community, you can already do so when filling out the form.
